5 Reasons to navigate Morocco by motorcycle

Morocco is a country of towering mountain ranges covered in snow, rivers flowing through deep
canyons, pristine white sand beaches, and vast expanse of the Sahara Desert and most importantly,
it’s all connected together by some of the most amazing roads in the world – a perfect combination for
an adventure motorbike trip in this North African country. Morocco holidays can’t get better than
navigating it on a beast of machinery between your legs.
Adventurous motorcyclists will find Morocco an epic one, especially riding through the sketchy roads
of tiny villages, pop-up markets and stopping by to sip into a cup of sweet mint tea through a grin on
your sand-burned face. On your ride path across the country, experience the cultural fabric of
Morocco interwoven by Berber, Arabic and European influences. Morocco desert tours on motorbike
can be a lifetime event to cherish about.
Biking across the varied topographies of Morocco can be truly fascinating because of the following
reasons and only avid bikers can relate to it.

  1. Cost effective
Exploring Morocco on your two wheeler would never pinch your pocket. It is pretty much affordable as
compared to other European destinations. While prices may vary depending on the type of bike you
settle for, a round trip, 10 day excursion of the northern half of the country from coast to mountain
might come to 5,500 Moroccan dirham (around $580) for the rental, inclusive of gas. Add an extra 150
Moroccan dirham (around $16) for the speeding ticket you’ll inevitably get from the cheery police that
wait along the road at makeshift ticketing stalls here and there.
  2. Adventurous
There’s always an intimacy built into motorcycle travel that you just don’t get during four wheeler road
trips, even with all the windows down. Just when you start leaving the city limits behind and the flat
straight road starts morphing into a serpentine black ribbon wrapped around mountain slopes, it gives
a sense of adventure that you want to carry forward to. Riding along the dusty, windy road under the
hot sun and cold evenings can be challenging, but then taking on the challenge and enjoying the
picturesque surroundings is why you are on your mechanical beast. Your trip to Morocco will just get
    better and better.
  3. Ease of navigation
While on the road, riding a bike, it shouldn’t be difficult to navigate around the city or the suburbs. One
can simply follow the direction of traffic or follow the sign boards. Road sings are in Arabic and Latin
scripts with arrows pointing to the destinations. However, the humble friendly locals are always at
your help incase you look for any specific directions on the road. Moreover it is easy to procure SIM
cards in Morocco, just load up with some additional data and use online maps to locate places.
  4. Full of liberty
While on the bike, you are free to move around. You are at full liberty to either rest or go on for long
hours on the road. Just as per your wish you can explore either the desert stretch or the mountainous
foothills or the kasbahs or the souks or the oasis or the plages. You even can stop over for a
refreshing cup of mint tea or rest at any riads. While the wheels roll on the road you are a free bird.
Enjoy your motorcycle itinerary and have a joyride on your Morocco vacation.
  5. Feel empowered

It gives immense empowerment when you cover those Moroccan destinations riding a bike. You are
greeted with wondering eyes and tickled smiles everywhere. No matter how filthy or dishevelled you
are, there’s a sort of delight and camaraderie exchanged as you are offered respect and love. On the
road either in the city limits or out in a Berber village, you are always admired and a spectacle to
watch out for. This obviously gives a sense of pride and empowerment.

IMLIL TREKKING GUIDES

Here we will write more about our project Imlil-Trekking.com and also about other projects with focus on Tourism and Intercultural understanding that we participate in the Imlil area.

imlil-trekking.com invites you to experience a different face of Morocco. Just 1,5 hours drive from Marrakech you enter another world, another time. Leaving behind hot and busy streets, crowded souks and hooting cars High Atlas Mountains greet you with breath taking views, green oases, rivers, waterfalls and shadows under age-old nut trees.  Laughing children pass by, muletiers load their donkeys and Berber women already put on fire for mint tea and Berber tajine.  .

Testimonials

  • The journey was just awesome. If yo are in a medium shape I would totally recommend to do this tour with great guide hamid, since you will experience This county from its best side. The tour was perfectly prepared: pick up, etc. Furthermore the food at the berber guest house was great, even though you wouldn’t expect it. I would do it again! ·

  • Beautiful scenery and nice guide. We were picked up in Marrakech exactly at the agreed time and were driven to Imlil by a good driver and your car. We were met by the guide and went for a short daytrip of about 4 hours and lunch home at the guide. Good Moroccan food.

  • 3 days 3 valleys tour We had such a wonderful time on our 3 day tour of the valleys around imlil and the surrounding berber villages. It exceeded our expectations. Our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable. We were cooked wonderful food throughout the entire 3 days, and the accommodation provided everything we needed. We couldn't recommend imlil trekking enough.
