Mount Toubkal trek in The High Atlas Mountains

Welcome to Imlil Trekking, your local trekking company based in Imlil, the gateway to Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains.
We specialize in guided Mount Toubkal peak treks, organizing unforgettable mountain adventures from Imlil or Marrakech. Our experienced local Berber mountain guides know the trails, valleys, villages and changing mountain conditions of the Toubkal region, allowing you to discover the High Atlas safely and authentically.
At 4,167 metres, Mount Toubkal is the highest mountain in Morocco and North Africa. Reaching its summit is an unforgettable experience, combining physical adventure with spectacular mountain scenery and the opportunity to discover the traditional Berber culture of the High Atlas.
Whether you have only two days or would like a longer trekking adventure, we can arrange a private or small-group Toubkal trek according to your fitness, experience, interests and available time.
Our team is made up of experienced local guides who know the Toubkal region and its mountain trails. We are passionate about sharing our mountains, culture and traditions with visitors from around the world.
You can begin your Toubkal adventure directly from Imlil, or we can arrange your trip from Marrakech, including transportation to Imlil.
Imlil is the main starting point for many Toubkal treks and is located at approximately 1,740 metres above sea level.
We organize Toubkal trekking programs from 2 days to longer multi-day adventures. A two-day ascent is suitable for experienced and physically fit hikers, while a three-day or longer itinerary allows more time for acclimatization and for enjoying the Berber villages and landscapes of the High Atlas.
Our Toubkal treks are more than simply climbing a mountain. Along the way, you can experience traditional Berber villages, mountain hospitality, local food, mule transport and the spectacular landscapes of the Toubkal National Park.
Most classic Toubkal ascents begin in Imlil and follow the valley toward Sidi Chamharouch, before continuing toward the Toubkal mountain refuge at around 3,200 metres.
From the refuge, the summit climb begins early in the morning. The trail becomes steeper and more challenging as you approach the summit, but the reward is an incredible panoramic view across the High Atlas Mountains.
At the summit of Mount Toubkal – 4,167 metres, you will have time to enjoy the views, take photographs and celebrate reaching the highest point in Morocco and North Africa.
After the summit, we descend toward the refuge and then continue back to Imlil, where transportation can be arranged for your return to Marrakech.
A challenging and efficient option for experienced hikers with limited time.
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Sidi Chamharouch – Toubkal Refuge
Day 2: Toubkal Refuge – Toubkal Summit – Imlil – Marrakech
This itinerary involves long and demanding walking days, including the summit ascent. Our website currently describes the two-day route as an option for experienced hikers who are comfortable with the altitude and physical demands of the trek.
Our three-day itinerary provides a more relaxed approach to the summit and gives you more time to experience the mountain environment and Berber villages.
A typical itinerary includes:
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Toubkal Valley / mountain accommodation
Day 2: Trek toward Toubkal Refuge and overnight at the refuge
Day 3: Early summit ascent – descent to Imlil – transfer to Marrakech
The three-day program allows travelers to combine the Toubkal summit with beautiful valleys, traditional villages and mountain landscapes.
For travelers who want more than a summit climb, we can organize longer trekking programs through the High Atlas.
Longer itineraries can include:
Our itineraries can be adapted to your level of fitness and the time available.
Depending on the itinerary you choose, your Toubkal guided trek can include:
The exact inclusions depend on the itinerary and number of trekking days.
Unless specifically arranged in your trekking package, the following may not be included:
We can help you arrange additional services when required.
Mount Toubkal can be climbed throughout much of the year, but conditions vary considerably by season.
For the classic Mount Toubkal summit trek, we recommend the summer trekking season from May to the end of September.
During this period, the High Atlas generally offers more favorable conditions for trekking, with warmer weather, longer daylight hours and a lower likelihood of snow on the normal summit route. This makes May, June, July, August and September an excellent period for travelers who want to climb Mount Toubkal without winter mountaineering conditions.
From approximately December to April, snow and ice can make the summit route more demanding. Depending on current conditions, appropriate winter equipment such as crampons and an ice axe may be necessary.
During the warmer months, the routes are generally more accessible, although the summit climb remains physically demanding because of the altitude.
Our local guides monitor the mountain conditions and can advise you about the appropriate itinerary and equipment before your trek.
You do not necessarily need previous mountaineering experience for a Toubkal trek, but you should have a good level of physical fitness.
The summit reaches 4,167 metres, and altitude, steep terrain and long walking days can make the trek challenging.
For first-time trekkers, we generally recommend allowing more time rather than choosing the fastest possible itinerary. A longer program provides more time to enjoy the mountains and can make the experience more comfortable.
Our guides will accompany you throughout the trek and help you manage the pace according to the group and mountain conditions.
If you are staying in Marrakech, you do not need to arrange everything yourself.
Imlil Trekking can organize your complete Toubkal adventure starting from Marrakech.
Your journey can include:
Marrakech → Imlil → Toubkal Trek → Imlil → Marrakech
We can arrange private transportation from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, meet you in Imlil with your local mountain guide and organize the trekking logistics for your journey.
The drive from Marrakech to Imlil takes approximately 1.5 hours under normal conditions.
If you are already staying in Imlil, you can start your adventure directly from the village.
This option is ideal for travelers who want to spend time in the High Atlas before or after climbing Toubkal.
We can arrange:
