Discover the authentic beauty of the High Atlas Mountains on a full-day trek from Marrakech to Imlil.
After a scenic drive from Marrakech, we arrive in Imlil, the gateway to the Toubkal region. From here, we begin our trek through the traditional Berber villages of Aït Souka and Tamatert, following old mountain paths surrounded by terraced fields, walnut and fruit trees and spectacular views of the surrounding peaks.
The trail gradually climbs towards Tizi n’Tamatert Pass, at approximately 2,279 metres. From the pass, enjoy magnificent panoramic views over the Imlil and Imenane valleys and the surrounding High Atlas mountains.
After enjoying the mountain scenery, we continue through the high villages and traditional Berber landscapes before descending back towards Imlil.
This is an excellent day trek for travellers who want to experience Berber culture, mountain scenery and traditional village life without spending a night in the mountains.
Pick-up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech.
Travel by private vehicle towards the High Atlas Mountains. The journey takes approximately 1½ hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.
Along the way, enjoy the changing scenery as we leave the plains of Marrakech and enter the spectacular foothills of the High Atlas.
Arrive in Imlil, at approximately 1,740 m.
Meet your local mountain guide and take a short break before beginning the trek.
We begin walking from Imlil along mountain paths towards the traditional Berber village of Aït Souka.
The trail passes through terraced agricultural land, walnut trees and traditional stone houses. Along the way, your local guide will introduce you to the history, culture and traditional lifestyle of the Berber communities of the High Atlas.
Pass through Aït Souka, one of the traditional villages surrounding Imlil.
Continue towards the village of Tamatert, following peaceful mountain trails away from the main road.
The walk provides beautiful views back towards the Imlil Valley and the surrounding peaks.
Reach the traditional village of Tamatert.
Take a short rest and enjoy the views before continuing the gradual ascent towards Tizi n’Tamatert.
The trail becomes more open as we gain altitude, providing increasingly impressive views over the valleys and surrounding mountains.
Arrive at Tizi n’Tamatert Pass, approximately 2,279 m above sea level.
This is one of the highlights of the trek.
From the pass, enjoy spectacular panoramic views across the Imenane Valley, the surrounding High Atlas peaks and the traditional villages built into the mountainsides.
Take time to relax, enjoy the scenery and take photographs.
Enjoy a lunch either at a suitable local restaurant or in a mountain setting, depending on the route and arrangements.
After lunch, continue through the beautiful mountain landscape.
Depending on the group's pace and the conditions, we follow the trails through the high villages and surrounding countryside, enjoying views of the valleys and traditional terraced agriculture.
Your guide can make stops along the route for photographs and to explain local traditions and mountain life.
Begin the descent towards Imlil.
The trail follows traditional mountain paths between the Berber villages, passing cultivated terraces, orchards and traditional houses.
The descent provides a different perspective of the Imlil Valley and surrounding mountains.
Arrive back in Imlil.
Take some time to relax and enjoy a Moroccan mint tea before meeting your driver.
Meet your private driver and begin the journey back to Marrakech.
Drop-off at your hotel or riad.
End of the High Atlas mountain experience.

This is a moderate mountain trek involving an uphill climb to Tizi n’Tamatert. Guests should have a reasonable level of fitness and be comfortable walking for several hours on mountain trails.
The itinerary can be adjusted according to the group's fitness level, weather and trail conditions.
Please note: This is a day trek in the High Atlas and does not include climbing Mount Toubkal.

I went on this tour with my friend. The taxi driver picked us up at our riad, which was very nice. The driver, Jamal, was funny and gave us some moments to make pictures. Our tour guide, also Jamal , was very sweet and kind. For us the whole experience was unforgettable. Lovely people with very rich hearts!
Perfect day trip, best food, waterfall, scenery and most of all GREAT value for money! My only nag was the car we we travelled to and from was not clean and long crack on windscreen!
It has been an amazing experience in Imlil. Left Marrakech to visit Imlil Village, our guide, his name is Hocaine is the famous and friendly tourist guide we've met.. every body knows him..he's from this small Berber village who lead us up the mountain where we had a delicious Moroccan traditional lunch. Thanks to those people we met for making this trekking extra special. You guys rock!! The whole experience was absolutely awesome!.
