Your ISK Summit day hike begins in the mountain village of Imlil, the gateway to the Toubkal National Park and one of the most important trekking centres in the Moroccan High Atlas.
Meet your local mountain guide, prepare your water and hiking equipment, and begin walking along quieter trails away from the main Toubkal route.
The trail gradually climbs above Imlil through pine and juniper woodland.
This section offers a peaceful introduction to the High Atlas, with fewer walkers and beautiful views opening across the Mizane Valley as you gain altitude.
The path continues past mountain pastures and areas traditionally used by local shepherds during the summer months.
Continue steadily uphill towards the ISK Summit, reaching approximately 2,520 metres above sea level.
At the summit, take time to rest, enjoy the mountain scenery and photograph the spectacular views towards Mount Toubkal and the surrounding High Atlas peaks.
This is one of the highlights of the day and a wonderful viewpoint for travellers who want impressive mountain scenery without undertaking a multi-day Toubkal expedition.
After a break at the summit, begin the descent through the mountain landscape towards Armed (Aremd).
Armed is one of the most important traditional villages in the Imlil Valley, with houses built into the steep mountainside and spectacular views over the valley.
Enjoy a freshly prepared traditional Moroccan lunch in a local home.
Depending on the season and local arrangements, lunch may include dishes such as Moroccan tagine, couscous, salads, fresh bread and mint tea.
This is more than just a lunch stop — it is an opportunity to experience the hospitality and everyday mountain life of the local Amazigh community.
After lunch, continue walking through the villages and agricultural terraces.
The trail passes through Achain village and continues beside a mountain stream and waterfall before gradually returning towards Imlil.
The final section provides a relaxing end to a challenging mountain day.

Moderate to Challenging
This is a serious full-day mountain hike rather than a gentle sightseeing walk.
The route involves approximately 13 km of walking and around 1,300 metres of ascent and descent. You should be comfortable walking uphill for several hours and descending on uneven mountain paths.
No technical climbing skills are normally required, but a good level of fitness and previous hiking experience is recommended.
We can adjust the itinerary according to your pace and experience, and your guide will monitor the group throughout the hike.
We recommend bringing:
Mountain weather can change quickly, so appropriate clothing is important even during warmer months.
The hike can be arranged throughout much of the year, but conditions vary considerably between seasons.
Spring: Green valleys, pleasant temperatures and excellent mountain scenery.
Summer: Start early to avoid the strongest midday heat. The higher sections are generally cooler.
Autumn: Often excellent hiking conditions with comfortable temperatures and clear mountain views.
Winter: Snow and ice can occur at higher elevations. Depending on conditions, specialist equipment such as microspikes or crampons may be necessary, and the route may be modified for safety.
Your guide will assess the weather and trail conditions before departure.
Choose the Imlil option if you are already staying in the High Atlas.

Yes. We can arrange a private round-trip transfer from your Marrakech hotel or riad to Imlil. The hike itself starts and finishes in Imlil.
It is considered moderate to challenging because of the elevation gain and long descent. Good fitness and some hiking experience are recommended.
Yes. A traditional lunch can be enjoyed in a local Amazigh home in Armed.
A local mountain guide is strongly recommended for this route, particularly because of the elevation, varied terrain and changing mountain conditions.
It depends on fitness. This is not an easy valley walk. Beginners who regularly exercise and are comfortable with long uphill walking may be able to complete it with a private guide, but an easier Imlil valley hike may be more appropriate.
For children, suitability depends on age, fitness and previous hiking experience. Families should discuss this with us before booking so we can recommend the safest route.
Bring sturdy footwear, layers, sun protection, at least 2 litres of water, a small backpack and weather-appropriate clothing. Walking poles are particularly useful during the descent.
Private departures can be arranged throughout the year, but winter snow and changing weather can affect the route. Your guide will assess conditions and may modify the itinerary when necessary.
The Marrakech package can include private hotel or riad pick-up and drop-off. The transfer is an additional service when booking the hike from Marrakech.
